Why Classic Styles Offer the Best Clothing Value
“I want to look good without spending a lot of money.
What’s the best way to use my clothing budget?”
This question – or variations thereof – regularly hits my
inbox from readers all over the world. While we may not
all speak the same language, there are a few things upon
which we can all agree that make us take leave of our
senses: rich chocolate, handsome men, and clothes that are
too cute to leave behind at the store.
So what’s a gal to do, particularly when she’s been saddled
with champagne tastes on a beer budget?
First, set down those glossy fashion magazines and back
away from them slowly. They can be dangerous, particularly
if you don’t know how to use them. $700 pants? $500
shoes? Who can afford to buy these things? Not many!
Look at what’s popular, swipe some styling ideas, then go
replicate the looks in prices that you can afford.
Secondly, start viewing any “must have” list with healthy
skepticism. These are the latest trends that the designers
are showing that will be dated by this time next year.
Some will be cute, true, but others will only be cute on
the models that show them. Once you learn what looks good
on you and what doesn’t, you’ll be a lot less susceptible
to buying what others say you “must have” each season.
Finally, invest in classic pieces that work well on your
body. It’s the single best way to get the most mileage out
of your clothing budget, because you can wear classic
styles for several years without ever looking dated. Top a
classic base with a trendy accessory, and you’ll look “au
courant” without going in the red.
So what exactly ARE classic styles, and how do you know one
when you see it?
Classics are styles that have been popular for years
because of their clean lines and utilitarian features.
While trends are instantly recognizable by length, pattern,
or decoration, classics transcend time with their cut,
style, and fabric. They can be worn alone, layered,
dressed up or dressed down, and can be made to look current
by adding something trendy.
Examples of classics include:
Jeans
Turtleneck
Cardigan
T-shirt
Sleeveless Sheath
Tailored Jacket
Crisp shirt
Trench Coat
Kelly bag
Penny loafer
There are some years when these styles are more popular and
some years when they’re less, but they continue to sell
well because they fit a variety of body types and offer a
simple, unfussy silhouette. Get them in basic, solid
colors, and you can wear them for years to come.
But won’t you get bored with the “same old thing?”
Only if you have no imagination.
The neat thing about classics is that they not only look
great all by themselves, they serve as a wonderful backdrop
to flashier pieces. Add a snazzy jacket, funky hosiery, or
a great pair of shoes, and you’ll be able to brilliantly
showcase the new piece using your classic staples as a
backdrop.
Your friends, family, and coworkers will think you spend a
fortune on your clothes, when in reality you’re merely
adding a few “to die for” pieces each year. It’s a clever
way to expand your wardrobe choices without overspending
your budget or over-cramming your closet.
So the next time you’re in a quandary as to what to add to
your wardrobe, opt for classics. They’re clean, versatile,
easy-to-wear, and make the most of your budget. Dressing
well just doesn’t get any easier than this!

Key Trends for Spring and Summer 2011
Being a mature lady doesn’t mean you are excluded from the world of fashionable womens clothing. You can incorporate key colours and trends from this season into your own wardrobe to update your style and keep on season, without over-doing it.
Florals are making a big comeback this spring/summer in ladies clothing; from skirts to dresses, to floral printed shoes. You can follow this trend by adding just one key piece to your outfit. You could add a loose floral shirt to your collection or even just a floral print bag, making a subtle fashion statement.
Camel and orange coloured clothing is also going to be big this spring/summer, with flowing loose material and long dresses. Chunky suede heels are also coming back, in camel, red or orange, if you’re not a big heel fan, these may be right up your street. The thicker wedge or chunky heel is easier to walk in and distributes the weight more evenly.
Pairing bold turquoise and peach clothing with camel trousers, skirts or jackets is also on trend this season.
If you recognise any of these key trends, don’t be afraid to revisit your own wardrobe – you may have pieces that are right on trend for this season hiding at the back of your closet. If not, you may only need to buy a few pieces to add to items you already own.
Being a more mature woman does not mean you need to exclude yourself from following fashion. By buying correctly fitted clothing for your shape and taking only subtle fashion pieces, you can stay looking fashionable but sophisticated.

Trendy Spring Time Coats For Plus Size Women
Toss that heavy winter coat and slip into these flattering spring styles for full-sized women. The right mix of color and cut will put a spring in your step every time you look in the mirror.
The best coat lengths for plus size women are mid-thigh and at the knee. The taller you are, the longer your coat can be, but still keep it above or at the knee — long coats will make your middle look bigger. If you are short, stick to coats that are mid-thigh and higher to make your legs look longer.
Plus size figures look good in coats that are open near the throat, or coats that have a big belt. So trench coats are a natural win. The open top of a trench coat can be filled in with a scarf if you get cold, or if you want a little contrasting color around your face. This openness near your top gives the visual illusion of making your head and chest area look larger, so if you have a full bottom and combine it will colors and openness near your face, the end result is that you look more proportional, and your middle looks thinner.
Belts are great for plus size women, but they should be worn loosely. You do not need to make your trench coat a corset because there is no reason to hide a full figure. Full figured women have been icons of beauty for hundreds, if not thousands of years, before we started this little blip of thin-obsession in modern history. The trend will probably roll back in favor of fleshy women, so do not ever feel you have to cover up. Use the belt, but use it to adorn yourself, not to apologize for your body. Belts with buckles and other “hardwear” look great because they emphasize the waist. Contrasting color in a belt is fine if you like it, but using the same color as your coat works is OK too, especially with a large buckle.
Pea coats are not a classic spring coat choice, but they are ideal for transitional weather. The shortness of the pea coat works for plus size women, as does the open throat area, and the big buttons. Another good option is a “walking coat”. These are good for fall, too, and there seem to be a lot of them available from the major retailers this year. Walking coats sometimes have no belts, which is okay but not ideal. If you want to look a bit better in a walking coat, keep it unbuttoned and add a scarf another your neck both to stay warm and to draw attention to your smile.
Colors for spring coats are brighter than other seasons. Black is, of course, the classic slimming color, but if black and spring don’t seem like a good combination to you, go with a navy colored coat and you’ll get 90% of the same benefits black would deliver. Do avoid straight white coats, but any off-white or cream is fine. Berry colors will bring out the color in your face, and purples are a wonderful choice if you want to feel like a queen.

Plus Size Trendy Fashions for Summer
Has summer hit your part of the world yet? The shops and online stores are already stocking their plus size trendy fashions, so let’s take a look at the plus size trendy fashions for this year’s warm season.
Colours: Bright is in. Plain or striped orange, yellow, peach, lilac and cerise are bringing on the summery feel but don’t go crazy; an all yellow outfit may make you look like an oversize canary. A bright top with white or denim trousers or skirt gives just the right touch of cheerfulness to an outfit.
Prints: Both floral and animal prints are in vogue this summer as well as geometric designs. Floral prints come in all different colours and interestingly, so do the animal prints. Leopard prints are generally in shades of brown but zebra can be black and blue as well as black and white and snakeskin prints can come in purple. Beware though; all over prints can accentuate your size so choose separates, a plain top or bottom or a wide belt to break up the pattern.
If you don’t like animal print clothing or you think floral prints are a bit passé then jazz up a plain outfit with a colourful printed bag or scarf.
Tops: Wide stripes are back but use with care or they can make you look wider. Lace detail around necklines and along sleeves also features in this year’s plus size trendy fashions as well as the aforementioned prints.
Dresses and Skirts: Plus size trendy fashions can be straight or floaty. Straight dresses and skirts are usually in plain dark colours whereas the floaty ones are floral patterned in more pastel shades. Elasticated waist bands make for comfortable wearing.
Trousers: Wide trousers are still fashionable and are great for disguising bulgy hips. They also look great as evening wear with a lacy top.
Cardigans and sweaters: Open front draped cardigans and vests are great at disguising the fuller figure and look really elegant. Go for longline sweaters rather than anything that ends at the waist; these are still the height of fashion, so don’t be afraid to go for them.
Shoes: Flat shoes are still in vogue; gladiator sandals, Birkenstocks and their lookalikes and ballet pumps in all colours, with or without decorative detail.
Bags: A large bag makes you look slimmer and there are plenty to choose from in floral print drawstrings as well as more traditional shapes and colours.
If you’re looking for plus size trendy fashions there are plenty out there to choose from both in the malls and on the internet.

6 Spring Wedding Fashion Trends For 2011
Spring is around the corner and so is the spring wedding. A wedding in spring has its own beauty; color is back in nature with trees shining with new leaves, the grass is green once more and beautiful flowers blooming everywhere. A spring bride has the chance of wearing bright girlish color to compliment the colorful nature outside. So if you are planning to be a bride this spring or attending the marriage of your favorite cousin/friend, here are some tips to help you out.
• First is color. A spring bride can choose romantic colors like pink or red over pastel colors like white, ivory, lavender or yellow. You can give a modern twist by wearing a dress with combination of pink and lime green. That can double up as your wedding theme as well.
• The style of wedding dress is heavily leaning on vintage especially those from 50′s and 60′s. If you don’t want to go all the way, you can try one or two items that are classic vintage and reminiscent of the era like retro birdcage bird veil.
• Lace wedding dress is back into fashion in 2011 for Spring brides. Other fabrics that are in this year include organza, chiffon and charmeuse. Princess style ball gowns are another all time favorite; the trend this Spring is to add roses, ruffles, layers of lace and organza petals to create a dramatic, voluminous silhouettes that will simply blow away your guests, and your fiancé’s mind as well.
• Flowers and spring are unanimous; you can’t think of one without the other. So it is no wonder that spring wedding will reflect this element. Keeping with the trends, dresses this year are high on floral embellishment for the bride as well as bridesmaid, and even the dresses of close relatives like the mother of the bride or groom. So if you are planning to wear a sheath dress to the wedding of your cousin or a ball gown, add color to it by including embroidered 3D-bud and blossoms. If you love the vintage look of 40s and 50s, you can choose to wear a pretty A-line dress with floral add-ons near the waistline and bodice. This is perfect especially if the wedding is being held on the afternoon or morning or if the wedding is being held in a park or some open-air area.
• Spring air can be chilly for the bride as well as those attending it. So a light cover-up should be part of your dress. But instead of wraps go for cardigans made of cashmere. Keep the sleeves full-length or ¾ and the attention of all will be on you.
• Another trend for weddings in spring this year is choosing different dresses in the same color group for the bridesmaid. This is great if your bridesmaids are of different age groups or body types; then you can choose various styles of dresses for them in deeper or lighter shades of the same color to complement each of them. You can truly make your bridesmaids happy with their dresses by allowing them to choose the cut, style and neckline while you choose the color of the dress as well as the material. This will be one dress your bridesmaid will want to wear later on, unlike the dresses in the closet of the heroine in the movie “27 Dresses”.
Spring has always been the symbol of new life; so it is very fitting that you start a new chapter of your life in this season. Hope these tips help you out in planning this most memorable day of your life.

Out With The Old, Hurray For The New In Plus-Size Clothing
Clothes should be comfortable, almost if not making one feel she’s wearing second skin. Clothes should bring out the shapely curves a woman is blessed with and consequently draw the attention of the opposite sex. Clothes should bring out the wearer’s innermost emotions.
For the longest time American women, most especially adolescent girls caught in peer pressure, find themselves smacked right on a battle to be thin. Thanks to the likes of Emme, Queen Latifah, and even former supermodel turned TV host Tyra Banks, plus size women are slowly but surely getting convinced to learn to love their bodies.
What’s more noticeable is how the garments industry is heeding the call for chic plus size clothing. Retailers and fashion designers are finally realizing the buying power of this previously overlooked group of women. As such, there has been an impressive rise of plus size specialty stores, of malls carrying these clothes, of online stores selling full figured friendly garments. It’s now actually possible to unearth a decent outfit and by that we surely do not mean sack dresses!
Say goodbye to dull, hideous wardrobe. The modern plus size woman now has all the access to stylish tops, shirts, jackets, pants and jeans, skirts, beach wear, gowns, lingerie, office wear and lots more -all intended to highlight her voluptuous body and captivate.
And when you wake up in the morning feeling under the weather just remember that if you have it, FLAUNT it! This is your moment; this is your time.

You already know that you need to dress in a way that is appropriate for your work. The traditional plus size professional clothing is the dark trouser suit. Not everyone wants to look the same and even then there are still a lot of variations in that particular style that you can build on with it. The choice of color is usually the biggest differential. Naturally, the classic is black but you might also want to go with a dark blue or gray. In some cases many women like to incorporate pinstripes into the design as this can work very well for the larger figure and can have a slimming effect.
However, if you do not like to wear the same as everyone else then you might want to try something a bit different. There are some great skirts and tops around at the moment. After all, who says that you have to wear a suit? Just because you are wearing plus size professional clothing that does not mean that you need to be boring. As long as it is not too unusual there is no reason why you should have to wear a suit. Enjoy yourself by trying some combinations and see what works for you.
There is some great plus size professional clothing around at the moment and if you keep your eyes open then you can find a really good variety and if you put some thought into it you can get some really good ideas that will let you go to work looking smart and stylish in a way that will really make heads turn.
