Woven Labels Folding Styles – What Every New Clothing Designer Should Know

For sewing a clothes tag onto fabric, there are three major finishing options: straight cut, mid-fold or end fold. The are several more exotic folding styles available, but these styles are more expensive and used by clothing designers just a small percentage of the time.

Straight cut
The ends of a woven label are simply heat sealed with no folding. If you plan to sew all four sides or two ends, this is a perfect label for you. The advantage of this type of label is that it is held snugly against the fabric and does not tear off easily.

Mid-fold
This type of woven tag is made as a long rectangle and folded short-ways in the middle. When both cut ends of the sewn into the fabric, the label hangs down. The advantage of this type of label is that you can include extra information, such as the care instructions, on the backside. The disadvantage is that these type of labels can be ripped off or damaged more easily.

End folds
The woven label is made like a straight cut, but there is a small amount of sew space on the short ends. These sew spaces are folded, and the sewing takes place underneath the label. This allows for a nice finished look without seams exposed to the outside. However, unlike the straight cut, it is not as snugly seated and can be ripped or damaged more easily.

These basic explanations of folding styles will help you determine how you design your woven labels. Remember, woven labels usually require anywhere from 2-4 weeks lead time, depending on the manufacturer—so plan early!

Dresses a Marker of the Status

In some societies, clothing may be used to indicate rank or status. In ancient Rome, for instance, only senators were allowed to wear clothes dyed with Tyrian purple. In China, before the establishment of the republic, only the emperor could wear yellow clothing. In a society without this law, which includes most of modern society, social status is not marked with the purchase of rare items or luxury, but is limited by how able they are to buy any type of clothing. However, in modern society, some types of clothes like dresses can be used as a mark to show our status.

Why so? Well, it is because most of dresses product sold with expensive price and only certain people can afford to buy it. From this perspective, you also know that there are many online stores which specially designed to provide various options of dresses product. And one of them might be accessed at Littlewooddesireland.ie. In there, customers can find wide range options of dresses of which have also been offered through many brands, such as: Adidas original, Kaliko, Lipsy, Joe Browns, Kat Von D, Motel, Nougat, Oasis, Paprika, Pepe Jeans, Ringspun, and many others. Each of those brands can be selected and adjusted with your own taste.

As its functions of marker of status, dresses have become one type of popular clothes that can be ordered and purchased easily through particular online store. And indeed, one website as I have mentioned above is the right place where you can purchase dresses with ease.

Banish Boring Boy Clothes and Get Hip to Cooler Styles

For some reason, many American designers have not yet caught on to the fact that boys clothes are largely boring. There are 10 racks of cute and colorful clothing for girls for every 2 racks of dull boys outfits. It’s many a mom’s complaint that boy clothes only seem to come in blue, gray and green. Another lament is that there does not seem to be any interesting patterns except for the predictable horizontal stripes, too.

What to do? Here’s some ideas:

Source the Web: If you’ve got nothing more than your typical Gap stores with cookie-cutter conventional clothes that every kid on the block is wearing, try sourcing the internet for interesting options. Plenty of little known designers or artists are peddling their clothing for kids online, and you can find super appealing designs on the cheap. eBay and Etsy can be cool places to find one of a kind stuff from budding at-home designers with heaps of talent.

Be Bold: Don’t be afraid to dress your little man in bright green, deep red or even purple. Forget dull stripes and look for interesting patterns such as madras or argyle for your mini fashionista. There is nothing wrong with putting a great pink cotton shirt on a boy over a crisp white t-shirt. Totally styling!

Go Rock and Roll: Forget stripes and dull colors, and go a little bit rock and roll with your little tot. Grab a cool t-shirt sporting a Beatles logo or Dad’s favorite rock band. Skateboarding fashion is blazing hot right now, and don’t think for a moment that the skater designers are forgetting about toddler sizes. A leather motorcycle styled jacket looks unbearably cute on a toddler, and if you’re on a budget don’t hesitate to look for a leather-inspired material such as vinyl.

Accessorize: Little boys don’t have to be left out of the fun details of dressing up. Try an adorable hat or beret, a belt with studs or even bright colored shoelaces that can set a more mundane outfit apart. Even a fun bandanna can ratchet up the cool factor on any outfit.

Sew it Yourself: If you have a sewing machine and access to a fabric shop, you’d be surprised how easy it is to make your own kid’s clothing. Use a pattern and simply follow the instructions carefully. If you have never sewed, don’t let that stop you from giving it a try. Simply stick with a very simple design and use a stretchy type fabric that requires no buttons or zippers. If you are not so adventurous to make clothes from scratch, you can certainly embellish an existing outfit that you bought at one of your local shops or even Walmart. Your local craft stores have a heap of iron on designs that will turn any ordinary white t-shirt into a work of art for just a few dollars. There’s also fabric pens and dyes that you can totally decorate an outfit with. Just be careful not to go overboard and stick to adorning one small section on an article of clothing rather than going hog-wild over the whole thing.

Buy Internationally: If you’ve got the pocketbook for it, shop for clothing brands from international designers. Foreign brands such as those from Italy, France and Spain offer bolder cuts, unexpected colors and a high chic quotient that is often unavailable in American fashions. If cost is an issue, you can often find these at consignment shops in larger cities or even second hand on the internet.

Transition Wear Styles – Post Pregnancy Clothing

In the beginning months of your pregnancy, when you are first starting to show, your regular jeans and tops begin to get a little snug. You might strain to get your favorite pair of jeans buttoned or realize that your usual tank tops are riding up a bit. This same issue occurs after your pregnancy, when your maternity clothes are too big, yet your baby weight prevents you from fitting comfortably into your pre-pregnancy styles. These stages of early and post pregnancy call for the aptly named “transition wear”, clothing great for early pregnancy and after, when you are not quite back to your pre-pregnancy weight. There are several brands which make great transitional clothing, where extra room in the waist and bust is provided without looking like maternity clothing.

Pants can often be a difficult item of clothing to fit, especially during this transitional period. In the beginning stages of pregnancy, your pre-pregnancy jeans become to snug to button, and the maternity jeans are too big. After pregnancy, this same issue reoccurs. One great trick during these transitional periods is the Bella Band by Ingrid & Isabel. This elastic transitional piece is incredible for all stages of your pregnancy, and will help you transition smoothly in the early months of pregnancy to after your baby has been born. When your pre-pregnancy jeans are a bit too tight, slip the Bella Band over the waistline with the pants unbuttoned. This will give you the extra room while still keeping your pants in place.

In the beginning, when maternity pants are still a bit too big, you can wear the Bella Band over the waistline and it will make them fit snugly. Coming in a variety of colors, the Bella Band is a great investment. Another great transitional piece is a trendy pair of sweat pants. Sleek and in style, sweats designed for transitional wear do not look like maternity clothes and provide comfort before, during, and after your pregnancy. The Bella Band Essentials Everyday Soft Pant is stylish and figure flattering. It can be worn in a number of ways, from folding the waistband underneath a smaller belly to wearing it unfolded over the belly during the later months of your pregnancy. So many women today, pregnant or not, wear cute, boot cut stretch pants and these from Ingrid & Isabel work for pregnancy or after. Since the fabric is super soft and sleek, they can be dressed up or down and can be paired with a variety of tops.

It can often seem tricky to find tops that work well after giving birth, when you still have baby weight you would like to lose. However, there are several designers that create clothing especially for this period. Japanese Weekend has a line called During & After, or D&A. This clothing is designed especially to work during pregnancy but to still be flattering afterwards while providing nursing access. One favorite is the Teal D&A Sash Maternity/Nursing Top. This top has a front tie which provides easy and discreet nursing access, while being long enough to cover you during and after pregnancy. Maternal America also designs some gorgeous maternity and nursing tops which, while comfortable during pregnancy, they do not look like maternity clothing. Their Criss/Cross Maternity/Nursing Top is a great option, as it camouflages the belly.

Some basic t-shirts or tanks are a great option while transitioning, and there are several good options out there. The Bella Band Essentials Ruched Tank is super soft and stretchy and will fit you before, during, and after your pregnancy. The Maternity Baby Tee from Shade Maternity is a great t-shirt option, as it is cut longer in the front to provide coverage during all stages of your pregnancy, including after. You will feel comfortable and stylish all day long.

After pregnancy there are several ways to camouflage that bit of extra baby weight. One option is to look for tops with an interesting neckline. This will draw the attention upwards and create visual interest around your face. Another great option to consider is a fitted blazer or jacket. A structured jacket provides shape and style, while camouflaging anything you might not want to show. Overall, there are many pieces which will work well during the early stages of pregnancy and post-pregnancy. Find your favorites styles, and you will look and feel great throughout your pregnancy.

Fifties Nostalgia and Retro Trends

It has long been said that history repeats itself. Nowhere is this truer than in popular aesthetic styles. Whether in clothing styles, home d?cor, or even toys, every few decades “retro” or “vintage” looks from a certain decade or era rise in popularity. Of course, not all old styles come back. These nostalgic trends pick and choose from the most popular looks of decades ago. Today, the fifties nostalgic look is especially popular, whether it be clothing, kitchenware, or even toys.

In the past several years, fifties retro clothing has been rising in popularity. Retro dresses are both flattering and popular, with their full skirts and fun polka dot patterns. Other items, like a classic cardigan and kitten heels, are versatile enough to wear everyday without copying a specific 1950′s style. These can be found as reproduction styles, although actual vintage clothing from the fifties is quite popular as well.

Clothing is not the only area to be influenced by retro styles. Home decor and kitchenware styles have recently been following retro fifties trends as well. Retro kitchenware, vintage linens, and chrome appliances can add a fifties touch to your kitchen. Chrome-legged tables and abstract-pattern dishes can complete the look. Meanwhile, kidney-shaped coffee tables and vintage furniture upholstered in abstract barkcloth fabric can add a retro fifties vibe to your living room. Fifties home decor and kitchenware are especially popular among adults who remember these looks from their childhood, and are looking to reproduce them in their own home.

Another interesting area where the vintage style has been making a comeback is in the toy section. Toys today’s parents recognize from their childhood, like the classic pedal car, have lately risen in popularity. Pedal cars, especially, are an essential 1950′s trend that is making a comeback. Not only are the toys themselves a popular 1950′s trend, but so are the hot rods they are modeled after. With their bright paint, chrome accessories, and sleek lines, these classic toys are the quintessential 1950′s toy. These 1950′s versions are highly prized by collectors, and several reproductions of classic fifties versions have also been produced.

Many 1950′s retro items produced today have a nostalgic look on the outside, but are completely modern on the inside. For example, kitchen appliances can be made to modern specifications, with an exterior that looks like they belong in a fifties kitchen. Meanwhile, pedal cars have been redesigned on the inside to be safer for your children to drive, while the exterior retains those classic 1950′s lines. By mixing modern technology with retro styling, you can have the best of both worlds.

In many areas, retro fifties styles are now quite chic. They are a great way to capture the past and get a unique look. To get a retro fifties style, look for things with the classic streamlined 1950′s look, in popular bold colors and shiny chrome. Whether you follow this trend by redecorating your kitchen or living room, wearing fifties-style clothing, or buying classic toys for your children, you are sure to be in style when following mid-century trends.

Trendy Baby Shoes and Clothing

Like their adult counterparts, baby shoes and clothing have trends too. While Junior may not realize he’s a fashion plate, Mom and Dad sure do, and trendy outfits and fashionable footwear are hot picks for the baby brigade. But, what is hot and trendy for babies in clothing and shoes this year?

Baby Clothes

o Animal prints are hotter than ever, and they’ve shown staying power through the years.
o Ruffles, for girls of course, never go out of style. Peek-a-boo ruffles in dress outfits can make even the most hard-hearted give an “Awwww”.
o For boys, the sporty look is always in style. Cute sports-related outfits have been popular for years, and they are a sure bet in baby clothes. Topping off the look with a hat not only makes the outfit complete, but helps shield the baby from harmful sun as well.
o Organic offerings are the latest introduction to baby clothes, as going green is all the rage not only in the home, but in textiles as well. Organic baby clothes not only use sustainable materials with environmentally friendly growing and harvesting techniques, but they keep harmful chemicals from the manufacturing process.

Baby Shoes

First and foremost, before fashion is comfort and fit in baby shoes. While purists claim that children’s feet develop best if less shoeless, practicality says otherwise. Baby shoes not only protect the feet during the first stages of walking, but keep baby’s feet warm. To choose the best shoes for a baby or toddler:

o Choose softer soles – suede and leather soles offer enough protection for little feet, while still allowing the foot to remain flexible, they also help in offering slip resistance;
o Choose shoes that aren’t stiff. Children are still learning to use their feet, and they need to have some wiggle room.
As for trends in baby shoes, Velcro has become the clear frontrunner over laces, making the constant retying or tripping over laces a thing of the past.
While dressing up baby in trendy shoes and clothing can be fun, don’t forget the practicalities:
o Busy prints hide dirt and stains;
o Comfort and proper fit is the most important aspect;
o Convenience for Mom and Dad should factor in as well, snaps instead of buttons and easy on and off clothing make dressing and undressing much more labor intensive.
o Easy care and no iron should reign supreme in a baby’s wardrobe.
o Last, but certainly not least, dress children appropriately for the weather.
Have fun but be sensible when outfitting babies, trendy outfits are fun and cute, but a healthy, happy, comfortable baby is even cuter!
